The number of clubs participating in the 2025-2026 football season of the Second League has been determined.
According to information provided to Idman.biz by the Professional Football League (PFL), the tournament will be held with the participation of 12 teams.
Despite official requests and multiple reminders, the “Gusar” team has not confirmed its participation in the 2025/26 football season. Additionally, considering repeated negative incidents during the 2024-2025 season matches of the team (systematic violations of the regulations), and based on sporting principles, the team will be replaced in the Second League by “Agstafa Ganjlari,” who took 3rd place last year in the Regional League.
After consultations with AFFA, the Professional Football League has made changes to the tournament format considering the potential of the Regional League and the interest of teams in the Second League. In the 2025/26 season, the winner of the Second League will be directly promoted to the First League, while the runner-up will face the team that finished 9th in the First League in a one-off playoff match. From the Regional League, three teams will have a chance to be promoted to the Second League. The team that finishes 1st in the Regional League will be directly promoted to the Second League, while the 2nd and 3rd place teams will play one-off playoff matches against the teams finishing 11th and 10th in the Second League, respectively.
The 2025-2026 Second League tournament will consist of 27 rounds. Teams will initially compete in 22 rounds divided into 2 phases, followed by a 6-team system comprising 5 additional rounds.
The budget allocated for the Second League will be equally divided among the 12 clubs.
The 2025-2026 season of the Second League will begin on September 6.
