“Neftchi’s goal every season should be the championship.”
This is what Agaselim Mirjavadov said in an interview with Sport24.az, Idman.biz reports.
A member of AFFA’s Coaches Committee, Mirjavadov shared his expectations from Neftchi in the new season:
“There have been major changes in the squad. We read in the press that the team is making new transfers, but we haven’t seen them play yet. Once the new season starts, we’ll understand the players’ quality in the early rounds. Every coach has their own style and football philosophy. Based on that philosophy, they select players. That’s an important factor. Because if you don’t have quality players at your disposal, you can’t do anything.
It’s very odd that Neftchi has frequently changed coaches over the past 10–12 years. Just like every field has its own rules, in football, constantly changing coaches won’t make a team stronger. Winning the championship again with Samir Abbasov? Why not? He’s already done it once. You know, our biggest problem is the lack of confidence in local specialists. We need to give our local coaches a chance. Qarabag, Zira, and Araz-Nakhchivan can be cited as examples.”
Neftchi finished 5th in the 2023/2024 Azerbaijan Premier League season.
