Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min is leaving the club.
The 33-year-old player announced the decision during a press conference held in his home country, South Korea, Idman.biz reports.
Son Heung-min, who has been with Tottenham since 2015 and serves as the team’s captain, said: “I want to announce that I’ve decided to leave the club this summer. I’d like to respectfully state that the club is also supporting me in this decision.
This was the most difficult decision of my career. There are so many wonderful memories. It was incredibly hard to make this choice. I need a new environment to continue growing. I need a bit of change – ten years is a very long time. When I arrived in North London, I was just a kid, 23 years old – very young. Now I’m leaving this club as a grown, proud man.
I want to thank the Tottenham fans for their love. I hope this really is the right time for such a decision. I hope everyone will understand and respect it.
It’s very hard to tell my teammates, because you spend more time with them than even your own family.
It’s been quite a while since I made the decision to leave the club. The past few days have been very tough. It hasn’t been easy to appear energetic on the outside, but I did my best not to harm my club or my teammates. The decision has already been made, but during these last two days here, I want to create beautiful memories with the fans.”
Over 10 years with Tottenham, Son Heung-min made 454 appearances and scored 173 goals.
