“Shkendija is a tough opponent. In my opinion, if Qarabag had faced FCSB, it would have been more difficult.”
Idman.biz reports that veteran footballer Aslan Karimov made this statement in an interview with Sport24.az.
The experienced specialist shared his expectations regarding Qarabag’s matches against Shkendija (North Macedonia) in the third qualifying round of the Champions League: “I don’t mean to say Shkendija is weak. I just want to emphasize that our team might have had a tougher time playing against FCSB compared to Shkendija. One reason for FCSB’s loss to Shkendija was relying solely on counterattacks. I watched the game. They dominated, but there were gaps in defense. They couldn’t play open football. Although Shkendija defends compactly, it won’t be a problem for Qarabag to break through their defense. Of course, the North Macedonian side can execute good counterattacks, but their defense has many weaknesses.”
The first leg between the teams will take place on August 5 at the “Todor Proeski” stadium in North Macedonia. The return match will be held on August 12 at the Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium.
