The appointment of Elchin Masiyev as the fourth official for the UEFA Super Cup match is undoubtedly very good news in terms of the development of Azerbaijani refereeing.

He highly praised FIFA referee Elchin Masiyev’s appointment by UEFA: “It also shows that we are working in the right direction with our referees.
Let us not forget that we have previously been represented in the final stages of UEFA European Under-17 and Under-21 Championships with two main referees and two assistant referees, Kamal Umudlu and Elchin Masiyev officiated in those matches. The appointment to the UEFA Super Cup match between PSG and Tottenham, which will take place on August 13 in Udine, once again proves that working in line with UEFA’s guidelines in our domestic competitions is the only correct path. We are able to work with UEFA in a consistent and compatible manner.”
The Belgian official emphasized that this appointment will boost the development of Azerbaijani refereeing: “It is a great honor for AFFA to be represented at the highest level of European football. This appointment will have a positive impact on Azerbaijani refereeing, and I hope that new young boys and girls will be inspired to start a refereeing career. Because we need more referees at all levels.
Aliyar Agayev and Elchin Masiyev, along with their teams, have also been appointed to officiate a UEFA Europa League third qualifying round match next week. They are our two referees in UEFA’s first category, which is a great achievement.
