Kady Borges: "We want to go further in the Champions League"

“It was a good game for us.”

Qarabag player Kady Borges said this in a statement to AZERTAC, speaking about their advancement to the next round of the UEFA Champions League after defeating Ireland's Shelbourne 4-0 on aggregate in the second qualifying round, Idman.biz reports.

The 29-year-old midfielder noted that making a successful start to the new season would have a positive impact on the team's upcoming matches: “It’s true that at the beginning of every season, players struggle to some extent. You have to regain your previous form. However, we performed well in both matches against Shelbourne. We had scoring chances in the return leg. Unfortunately, I couldn’t convert the penalty. That’s football, sometimes things don’t go your way. I took the penalty on the instruction of Gurban Gurbanov.”

The Brazilian player also spoke about their Champions League goals: “The next stage will be difficult. We need to prepare well for the third round. We want to go even further in this tournament.”

The Agdam club will face North Macedonia's Shkendija in the next round. The Tetovo-based team eliminated Romania's FCSB in the second qualifying round. After a narrow win in the first leg, Shkendija secured another victory in the return match—2-1.

The first legs of the third qualifying round will take place on August 5–6.
