Today, famous Romanian football coach Mircea Lucescu turns 80 years old.
He spent most of his playing career at Bucharest’s Dinamo and scored 9 goals in 70 appearances for the Romanian national team between 1966 and 1979, Idman.biz reports.
Lucescu coached the Romanian national team from 1981 to 1986 and returned as head coach again in 2024.
However, he is best known as a coach for his 12 years at Donetsk’s Shakhtar, where he won multiple Ukrainian championships and the UEFA Cup in 2009.
Lucescu’s football career is also linked to Turkiye. He won the Super Lig championship with both Galatasaray (2002) and Besiktas (2003), and coached the Turkish national team from 2017 to 2019. He also won the UEFA Super Cup with Galatasaray in 2000.
