Lionel Messi ranks fourth in ESPN’s MLS Designated Player ratings

Inter Miami’s star forward Lionel Messi ranked fourth in ESPN’s MLS Designated Player (DP) rating.

The list is topped by Robbie Keane (LA Galaxy, 2011) in first place, Sebastian Giovinco (Toronto, 2015) second, and Carlos Vela (Los Angeles, 2018) third, Idman.biz reports.

The ranking places Thierry Henry’s move to Red Bull sixth, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s transfer to Galaxy ranks ninth.

ESPN’s system allows league clubs to sign players whose salaries exceed the set salary cap. This rule was introduced 18 years ago to help Los Angeles sign David Beckham.
