Defender of the Azerbaijan national team Milana Rahimova chose the North Macedonian club “Ljuboten” because she sees it as a path to European football.
The defender herself stated this in an interview with “Report news agency, Idman.biz reports.
The 21-year-old player evaluated her decision: “My goal and dream have always been to play for European clubs. I had offers from countries like Turkiye, Cyprus, and Kazakhstan. However, I chose the North Macedonian team because I believe it offers a path to European competitions.”
She also spoke about the level of women’s football in North Macedonia: “Women's football is improving year by year here. Even though I’ve just arrived, I can already see the country's interest in the sport. There are age-group teams for both women and men. You can really feel their passion for football.”
The defender also shared her views on the national league: “The league is better than in previous years. The number of foreign players is increasing each year. There are national team players from various countries, which raises the level of the championship.”
The national team member also talked about Ljuboten’s ambitions: “The team will compete in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Our first match will be on July 30. Our goal is to advance to the next stage.”
Milana Rahimova transferred to Ljuboten from the Turkish club Unyespor. She signed a one-year contract with the North Macedonian side.
