Interview with “Turan Tovuz” defender Faig Hajiyev for Futbolinfo.az
– How is the preparation process for the new season going? You've already played one friendly match. What are your thoughts on the game against Corum (1:1) and the summer training camp?
– Everything is going according to plan. We've completed the first stage of our training camp in Turkiye. The second stage will take place from July 24 to August 6. The atmosphere within the team is good, everything is in order. The match against Corum was our first friendly, and it went well. We hope to return to full form by playing other friendlies before the start of the league.
– At this point, what percentage of readiness would you say the team is at for the new season, and do you believe you’ll be fully prepared by the start of the championship?
– It’s hard to say what percentage we’re at right now. We’re working at full strength and doing everything we can to be in top shape by the time the season starts.
– Some players have left and new ones have joined. How will these squad changes affect “Turan Tovuz”? Are you satisfied with the level of the new signings?
– Of course, it’s always difficult to replace those who leave. The new players have a process of adapting to the team. We’re doing our best to help them settle in quickly. Yes, every new player is of good quality. Hopefully, they will make a big contribution to the team.
– At the end of last season, the team failed to qualify for European competitions. What are your expectations for the new season?
– We came very close last season, but it didn’t happen. That’s football... This season, we’ll try to achieve even better results.
– Our clubs participating in European competitions, as well as “Neftchi” and others, have signed many new players and are currently strengthening their squads. Does this suggest a tougher season ahead? Are you worried about missing out on European competition again?
– True, all teams are strengthening with new players. Considering that the newly promoted clubs will also add color to the Premier League, we expect a more exciting and competitive championship. We’re aware of that and are ready for the challenge.
– Personally, what are your goals for the new season? Do you see yourself becoming a regular invitee to the national team?
– As always, I want to show everyone a better version of Faig. I’m working hard for that. Like every footballer, it’s my dream to be regularly called up to the national team and to wear the national jersey.
