An interview with Qarabag’s Brazilian midfielder Pedro Bicalho for Futbolinfo.az
– You’re one of Qarabag’s new summer signings. How is your adaptation going? How long do you think it will take to fully integrate into the team and its playing style?
– The adaptation process is going very positively. Both the players and coaches, the whole club, welcomed me very well. Of course, every adaptation takes time, especially to understand all the tactical details of the team. But I believe I’m on the right path. With every training session and game, I feel more comfortable. I think I’ll fully adapt very soon.
– In the training camp in Austria, the team lost three of four friendly matches. While the results in such games aren’t the main focus, does this still concern you?
– No, it doesn’t worry me. We know that friendly matches are mainly for testing tactical structures, helping players adapt to each other, and regaining match rhythm. Of course, we would have liked to win, but the main goal is to be fully ready for official matches. We’re working toward that and I’m confident we’ll keep improving.
– Qarabag will begin its Champions League campaign in the second qualifying round. How do you rate your chances of advancing?
– I have a lot of faith in our team. We know that Champions League matches are always tough, regardless of the opponent. But Qarabag is a club with experience and tradition in this tournament. With commitment and focus, we have every chance to advance to the next round.
– Last season, Qarabag reached the Europa League group stage but finished last. Do you think the club can achieve a better result in European competitions this season?
– Yes, I believe so. The club learns from every international experience. This season the squad is stronger and the team is more mature. That will allow us to perform more consistently and competitively. Our goal is to represent both Qarabag and Azerbaijani football in Europe with pride.
– What are your first impressions of head coach Gurban Gurbanov? How does he differ from coaches you’ve worked with before?
– He’s a very intelligent coach, knows the club well, and has a clear tactical vision. He values discipline, high-tempo football, and organization. What impresses me most is his ability to get the maximum from players both individually and as a team. He’s a highly respected leader, and I’m learning a lot from him.
– Many Brazilian players have played and are still playing for Qarabag. Why do you think Gurban Gurbanov prefers Brazilian players?
– I think it’s because Brazilian players adapt quickly, are technically skilled, and have a strong competitive spirit. The head coach knows how to incorporate these qualities into his football philosophy. At the same time, the club’s environment makes adaptation even easier.
