Azar Bagirov: "Every leader is responsible for their own decisions" - INTERVIEW

Interview with former Kapaz head coach Azar Bagirov for Sport24.az.

- It’s been almost two months since you left the Ganja club. Looking back calmly, what reasons can you give for your departure?

- It would be better to ask the new and old management of Kapaz about the reasons. From my side, there were always compromise steps to get the work done. Probably they know better why they made those decisions.

- The media has not published positive information about the club’s new management. Recently, Erkin Ibrahimov, a member of the Board and advisor on sports issues, resigned. What can you say about that?

- It wouldn’t be right for me to say whether they did their job well or not. I think they know better what and how things should be done. The steps they take are their own business. I believe every leader stands behind their decisions and is responsible for them.

- Almost none of last season’s Kapaz squad remains. Now the club is struggling to find players for some positions. What do you think is the reason?

- Those are interesting questions. But that’s purely up to the current head coach. Adil Shukurov and I may have completely different opinions. Every specialist has their own approach and demands from players. I think they just can’t find the players they want. That’s why completing the team is delayed.

- Your contract with Kapaz was signed in September last season...

- During my term, we brought in some familiar players and had to get the situation under control quickly. In short, we had to get Kapaz out of a bad situation.

- Have you received any offers since leaving Kapaz?

- I had offers from some clubs, but they were not what I wanted. So I didn’t even discuss them.

- Was it because they were not ambitious clubs, or was there another reason?

- I have my own perspective today. I can’t say what will happen tomorrow or in the near future. For now, I want to take a step toward a completely different level.
