The truck driver Jose Azevedo, who claims to be the author of the video showing the burning Lamborghini in which Portuguese footballers Diogo Jota and Andre Silva lost their lives, has shared detailed information about the tragic incident.
His statements were published by Portugal’s well-known newspaper Record, Idman.biz reports.
Jose Azevedo recalled the event: "I was filming and stopped to help, but unfortunately, I couldn’t do anything. My conscience is clear. I know what I witnessed that night. To be honest, I didn’t know who was in the car. I offer my condolences to their families. I can say for sure that they were not speeding. I saw the car’s make and color. I travel this road every day, from Monday to Saturday, and I know it’s in very bad condition. It’s a dark road, but the car’s make and color were identifiable. Sadly, such an accident happened."
It is also reported that Azevedo tried to help the footballers at the scene using a fire extinguisher.
The footballers died in a car crash in northwestern Spain. The Lamborghini, driven by Diogo Jota, went off the road and caught fire after a tire burst during an overtaking maneuver. Jota, who played for Liverpool and the Portugal national team, and his brother Andre Silva, who played for Penafiel, were buried in Portugal on July 5.
