It is too early to say how Sasa Ilic will perform at Sumgayit.
Idman.biz reports that Aslan Karimov, head of the Coaches’ Education Department at AFFA, said this in an interview with AZERTAC while commenting on Sumgayit’s new head coach Sasa Ilic.
He noted that the Serbian specialist was well-known during his playing career: “He had a fairly rich career. However, I am not familiar with his work as a coach. Ilic has said that his goal for the new season is to qualify for European competitions. This will be difficult because there are strong teams in the league like Qarabag, Zira, Sabah, Neftchi, and Araz-Nakhchivan. To compete evenly with these rivals, many transfers are needed. Since Sasa Ilic is Serbian, he may look to his country’s football market. Also, there are individual players from Croatia and Slovenia who could play for Sumgayit. The football community should be patient regarding Ilic. A clear opinion about the coach can be formed after several rounds of the Premier League.”
Sumgayit signed a one-year contract with Sasa Ilic.
