Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his younger brother, André Silva, tragically died in a car crash in Spain early Thursday morning.
Idman.biz, citing CNN, reports that according to a preliminary police report, Jota was likely driving a Lamborghini at high speed when a tire burst, causing the car to veer off the road and catch fire.
Spain’s Guardia Civil confirmed that tire marks suggest speeding contributed to the accident. A full report will be submitted to a judge later this week.
The football world is mourning the loss. Cristiano Ronaldo wrote: “It does not make sense… I send strength to your family. We will all miss you.”
Jota had married his long-time partner Rute Cardoso less than two weeks prior. They shared three children.
The funeral was held Saturday in their hometown, Gondomar, Portugal.
