Tiago Silva: “We must show ourselves as fighters on the pitch against Hajduk”

Zira FC’s Portuguese goalkeeper Tiago Silva has shared his thoughts ahead of their UEFA Europa Conference League second qualifying round clash with Croatian side Hajduk Split.

Idman.biz reports that speaking to AZERTAC, Silva acknowledged the strength of their upcoming opponent:

“We know Hajduk is a very strong team, but everything depends on our performance.”

Silva pointed out that Croatian clubs are known for their aggressive and intense style of play:

“We’re expecting two very difficult matches. Hajduk is on the same level as Osijek and Omonia, teams we faced last season. If we show the same strength, courage, and focus as we did against Osijek, we have a good chance of progressing. But if we lose focus, it’ll be tough.”

The 28-year-old stressed the importance of securing a home win in the first leg to take the advantage into the away game:

“I think winning at home is crucial. That result would give us more confidence for the return leg. We hope to see a packed stadium and passionate support — we need that atmosphere to push us forward. Our team must continue making history and growing on the international stage.”

Silva also highlighted the team’s long-term ambition:

“Since last season, we’ve said our main goal is to reach the group stage of the European competitions. But this time, we must focus on one game at a time. Every match should be treated like a final. Right now, everything is about Hajduk. We must fight through every difficulty and prepare with full seriousness. On the pitch, we must show ourselves not just as footballers, but as warriors.”

The first leg between Zira and Hajduk will take place on July 23 at Neftchi Arena in Baku, with the return match scheduled for July 31 at the Poljud Stadium in Split.
