Former Greece national team striker Theofanis Gekas has shared his thoughts on the upcoming UEFA Conference League second qualifying round clash between Araz-Nakhchivan and Aris.
Speaking to AZERTAC, Gekas, who had a prolific career playing for clubs like Panathinaikos, Bayer Leverkusen, Hertha Berlin, Eintracht Frankfurt, Levante, and several Turkish sides including Sivasspor and Konyaspor, offered his analysis of the draw, Idman.biz reports.
“The draw was just held, so I don’t have much information about Araz-Nakhchivan. But I believe we will witness two exciting games. The tie will be decided by whichever side remains focused and makes fewer mistakes.”
Gekas also highlighted Aris’ strong home advantage, noting:
“The atmosphere in their home matches is always intense. That gives them an extra edge.”
The 45-year-old praised Azerbaijan’s investment in football:
“The country has invested heavily in sports, especially football. That’s an important step towards long-term development.”
The first leg of the tie will be played on July 24 in Azerbaijan, with the return match scheduled for July 31 in Greece.
