Ceyhun Sultanov: “If we get Sheriff or Spartak Trnava, it would be better”

The potential opponents of Sabah FC, who will represent Azerbaijan in the UEFA Europa League, have been revealed ahead of the first qualifying round draw.

Azerbaijan Cup winners Sabah could face one of the following clubs: Shakhtar Donetsk (Ukraine), Sheriff Tiraspol (Moldova), Celje (Slovenia), or Spartak Trnava (Slovakia), Idman.biz reports.

Prominent football manager Ceyhun Sultanov shared his views on the draw with Sport24.az, stating:

“There are no weak teams in the Europa League. But among the options, the more favorable opponents would be Sheriff and Spartak Trnava. If we get either of them, that would be better.”

Commenting on former head coach Vasili Berezutski’s departure from Sabah following the cup victory, Sultanov added:

“It’s hard to comment on his decision. He won the cup, and that was his choice afterward. It’s difficult to judge without being inside the club.”

Sultanov emphasized the significance of this European campaign for Sabah:

“This is Sabah’s first experience in the Europa League. It marks the beginning of a new chapter for the club on the international stage. The team will do its best to advance to the next round.”

The UEFA Europa League first qualifying round draw is scheduled to take place today at 17:00 (local time).
