Despite leading Pisa to Serie A after a 34-year absence, legendary Italian striker Filippo Inzaghi is heading back to Serie B — this time as head coach of Palermo.
The 51-year-old has signed a two-year contract with the Sicilian club, with a one-year extension option if the team secures promotion to Serie A, Idman.biz reports.
Palermo finished 8th in Serie B last season, and the club hopes Inzaghi’s top-flight experience will guide them to promotion. Pisa, in return, will receive approximately €700,000 in compensation for the early termination of Inzaghi’s contract.
With a strong reputation for revitalizing second-tier sides, Inzaghi now takes on a new challenge in southern Italy — aiming to bring Palermo back to the top division.
