"The progress in the national team's performance is clearly visible."
Former head coach of the Azerbaijan national team, Shahin Diniyev, told Idman.biz.
He shared his thoughts on the national team’s friendly match against Hungary. The experienced specialist said the match stood out for several positive aspects:
"The national team played with more desire and determination in this game. The players tried to apply pressure on the opponent throughout the entire match. Whether they succeeded or not is secondary. This match was notably different—in a good way—from the game in Latvia. Hungary is one of the standout teams in Europe and has many high-level players. Despite that, our team fought until the end. Compared to the match against Latvia, the performance was much better. This shows that the squad is becoming more settled, and the team play is improving. There was motivation, desire, and determination in this match. However, it’s clear that motivation alone isn’t enough to secure a win. In my opinion, if the level of play we saw yesterday continues to improve, we can achieve better results.”
It’s worth noting that Hungary defeated Azerbaijan 2–1 in Baku.
