"Adil Shukurov managed to keep Kapaz in the Premier League in the 2023-24 season. But everyone was saying he wasn't a good coach."
Former Azerbaijani national team player Vidadi Rzayev said this in an interview with Idman.biz, commenting on Adil Shukurov’s return as head coach of Kapaz. According to Rzayev, the real issue in the club isn’t the coaches, but the leadership:
"When Kapaz was promoted to the Premier League, the head coach was Yashar Vakhabzade. At that time, aside from one or two players, a proper transfer policy was implemented. Later, he was removed and replaced by Tarlan Ahmadov. In the end, Kapaz didn’t get relegated. Then the team was handed over to Azar Mammadov, new transfers were made, and he too left the club. After that, Adil Shukurov kept the team in the Premier League, and the club parted ways with him as well. This pattern repeats constantly. Why wasn’t Shukurov successful previously? That question should be asked of the former management. Why do they bring in coaches to save the team and then dismiss them afterward? You can’t fairly evaluate a coach in 6–7 months. That suggests the problem lies in the leadership. Last season, even though Azar Bagirov also kept the team in the league, he still left. Is he a bad coach? I was in favor of him staying because he put in hard work. Even Tarlan Ahmadov should have remained. But the same scenario plays out with every coach. Everyone says Ilgar Nadirli (current executive director of Kapaz) made great efforts. What efforts exactly? The coach is the one who works hard."
The veteran footballer wished success to the newly appointed coach and emphasized that none of the previous coaches at the club were bad:
"Time will tell whether Adil Shukurov will be successful. Since he's been appointed, all we can do is wish him the best. The main problem at Kapaz has been the former management. They've changed people, but the scenario remains the same. It’s like a movie — the operation continues, and they're still filming the same old script."
Adil Shukurov has been appointed as the new head coach of Kapaz. The 47-year-old has signed a two-year contract.
