Claudio Ranieri declines offer

73-year-old Claudio Ranieri has declined the offer to become the new head coach of the Italian national team.

The June 9 match against Moldova (2-0) in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers was the last one for 66-year-old Luciano Spalletti in charge of the national team, Idman.biz reports.
He had been leading the Squadra Azzurra since 2023.

Ranieri expressed his gratitude to the president of the Italian Football Federation, Gabriele Gravina, for the offer and added: "It is a great honor for me, but after careful consideration, I have decided to remain in my new role at Roma."

Ranieri, who coached Roma during the 2024–2025 season, is currently serving as an advisor to the club's board.
Throughout his coaching career, he has also managed teams such as Cagliari, Juventus, Napoli, Fiorentina, Inter, Monaco, Chelsea, Fulham, and others.
