"The team fights until the end."
This is what former head coach of the Azerbaijan U-21 national team, Samir Aliyev, told Idman.biz.
He evaluated the team's recent performances in friendly matches. The experienced specialist stated that under his successor Aykhan Abbasov, the team has been showing positive signs: "I often get asked about the U-21s. All I can say is that the team now has a new head coach Aykhan Abbasov who has already proven himself at Premier League clubs. He has sufficient experience and is building a new team."
According to Aliyev, there have been major changes in the team's main lineup:
"The national team has held two training camps and played four matches. It's clear that the players are very motivated. In the match against Montenegro, they fought hard until the end and created several goal-scoring chances. Unfortunately, they couldn’t convert any. But overall, the team leaves a good impression. I wish them success in the upcoming qualifiers."
For reference, the U-21 team recently played two friendlies:
They lost 1–3 away to Belarus,
And drew 0–0 at home against Montenegro in a match held in Sumgayit.
