Who does Aykhan Abbasov see as the strongest teams in the Nations League?
Speaking to Idman.biz, Aykhan Abbasov, head coach of Azerbaijan’s U21 national team, shared his thoughts on the UEFA Nations League semi-finals.
Abbasov believes Portugal has the upper hand in the first semi-final against Germany. “Portugal is not weaker than Germany, recent matches have shown that,” he said. “They have Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the biggest stars in world football. Despite his age, he continues to break records and increase his goal and appearance tally. Although Germany is considered the favorite, I think Ronaldo’s team will advance to the final.”
As for the second semi-final, Abbasov sees Spain as stronger than France. “Spain has been performing very well in recent years with their young squad. They even won the European Championship. That’s why I consider them the favorites.”
The young coach added that if Spain and Portugal face off in the final, he believes "La Roja" will emerge victorious. “Their youth and the motivation from their recent European Championship win could carry them to the Nations League title.”
The UEFA Nations League semi-finals kick off today, with Germany facing Portugal at 23:00 Baku time. The second semi-final between Spain and France will take place on June 5.
