German second-tier club Fortuna Düsseldorf is eyeing Azerbaijani international Mahir Emreli to bolster their attacking line.
The 2. Bundesliga side is evaluating several options to replace Icelandic forward Ísak Jóhannesson, who was recently transferred to 1. FC Köln for €5.5 million, Idman.biz reports.
Among the top candidates are Mahir Emreli, who recently parted ways with Nürnberg, and Swiss striker Cedric Itten from Young Boys.
However, Fortuna’s sporting director Klaus Allofs told Bild that not all of the proceeds from Jóhannesson’s sale will be reinvested into transfers. He emphasized that the club will focus on financially sustainable moves and is not in a position to pay large transfer fees.
