“Becoming world champions was incredibly difficult.”
These were the words of former national team goalkeeper Davud Karimi in an interview with Idman.biz, as he shared his thoughts on Azerbaijan’s historic victory at the WMF World Cup held in Baku.
Karimi, who previously experienced European Championship success with the national team in 2022, said the emotions are beyond description:
"First of all, I’d like to thank the President of the Azerbaijan Minifootball Federation, Orkhan Mammadov, Executive Vice President Taleh Nasibov, and the entire federation team. Their contribution to organizing such a magnificent World Championship was invaluable. The feeling of becoming world champions is impossible to describe. I felt something similar when we won the European Championship in Slovakia in 2022, so I understand what the players are going through now."
He emphasized that the road to the title wasn’t easy:
"The competition was intense, with players sometimes having to play matches on consecutive days. But head coach Elshad Guliyev and his staff had prepared thoroughly. They carefully planned how to manage the team’s energy throughout the tournament."
Azerbaijan secured the world title with a 4-2 win over Hungary in the final.
