“Playing for the national team is the peak point for every Azerbaijani football player. It is possible that this stage will also provide new opportunities for my club life. Time will tell. However, right now, all my attention is on the national team and my main goal is to be as useful as possible. I have to work harder and make the most of the chance I am given.”
These words were said by Shamakhi football player Jalal Huseynov in a statement to futbolinfo.az, Idman.biz reports.
22-year-old defender expressed his gratitude to the coaches who showed him confidence: “First of all, I would like to express my gratitude to Aykhan Abbasov. He trusted me when no one believed in me and invited me to the team. He even gave me a chance when I was not in ideal form. I was waiting for the invitation and I am very happy that after a long break I am back in the national team. It is a great honor to wear the national jersey. My goal is to gain a permanent place in this team. Of course, being in the national team requires a different responsibility and spirit. You have to be more serious and work hard as a professional to be able to wear this jersey consistently.”
The young footballer also commented on the upcoming friendly matches with Latvia and Hungary: “We have two interesting matches ahead of us. Frankly, I don’t know much about Latvia. But we will analyze them more closely during the training camp. Hungary is a team with well-known and high-quality footballers. They have made great progress in recent years. They have good, star footballers who play in the top leagues. We will do our best to win these games and make our fans happy.”
Huseynov also shared his thoughts on the national team's head coach Fernando Santos and stressed that he believes that they will end the series of failures: "It is true that we have not yet been able to win under Santos' leadership. But such difficulties also occur in other national teams and clubs. We simply need to prepare more seriously and put all our strength into it in order to end this series. Santos is a coach with great experience. The system does not matter - wherever and whenever I am given a chance, I will try to show my skills at the maximum level and quickly adapt to the team."
Finally, he also touched on his motivation in the national team: "Right now, I need to work more on myself, develop. We need to give our all for the national team. This is not only my responsibility, but also the responsibility of all my teammates - everyone who received an invitation and those who did not. I believe that we will cope with it adequately."
