“Our goal has been the championship from day one,” said Aziz Huseynov, a player of the Khankendi football club, in an interview with Idman.biz.
The team captain spoke about winning the AFFA Regional League, saying he was happy they became champions:
“The season was memorable with many exciting moments. Some matches were difficult, others were smooth. The playoff games were tougher compared to the group stage because the stronger teams had advanced. Despite the challenges, we secured well-deserved victories in every match. Throughout the season, our team conceded only one goal.”
Huseynov also commented on Khankendi securing a spot in the Second League:
“Our aim is to continue this successful run. We've already discussed this with the management. Our goal for next season is once again the championship. We want to advance as far as possible. Our squad includes players with Premier League experience, and as the team progresses, there will be roster changes. Since the founding of the Khankendi football club, our main goal has been to reach the Premier League. That’s the direction we’re heading in. We fully understand the responsibility that comes with carrying the name Khankendi. When new players join the team, the first thing we do is explain the weight of this name to them. Our main mission is to represent this name with honor.”
In the final held yesterday at the Gabala City Stadium, Khankendi defeated Shirvan 3-0 to become champions and earn the right to compete in the Second League. The team will also represent Azerbaijan in the next season’s UEFA Regions’ Cup.
