Rajab Farajzade is confident that the Azerbaijani national team will advance smoothly to the semifinals of the Minifootball World Championship, currently taking place in Baku.
The U23 national team coach shared his thoughts in an interview with Report, highlighting the squad’s solid preparation ahead of the tournament, Idman.biz reports.
“Our team has been preparing very well for the World Championship,” he said. “We even concluded the Azerbaijani championship early, in March, to focus entirely on this event. The team has undergone training camps and played several friendly matches. I believe the squad is fully ready. The lineup consists of players from Beerbasha Baku and Zira clubs. Beerbasha Baku is the reigning Champions League winner, and Zira is also a strong team. We expect our national team to progress to the semifinals with ease — at the very least.”
Farajzade also shared his thoughts on the tournament’s favorites:
“Besides Azerbaijan, Romania has consistently been one of the top contenders. The Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Serbia also have solid teams. These nations are always competitive. I haven’t seen the others play yet, but I’ve heard that Turkey has a very determined and fighting team.”
The Minifootball World Championship is being held at the National Gymnastics Arena and will conclude on June 1. Azerbaijan, competing in Group A, will face Bahrain today at 20:30.
