Another participant in the UEFA Europa League First Qualifying Round—where an Azerbaijani club will also compete—has been confirmed.
Moldova will be represented by FC Sheriff Tiraspol in Europe’s second-tier competition, Idman.biz reports.
Sheriff is among the seeded teams for the draw, meaning they could once again face an Azerbaijani side. The Moldovan club famously edged out Zira in last summer’s First Qualifying Round after a dramatic penalty shootout. Now, a return trip to Baku is on the cards.
Either Zira or Sabah will represent Azerbaijan in this round.
So far, 8 of the 16 teams in the round have been confirmed, including five potential opponents for the Azerbaijani representative.
