Another team in the Azerbaijani championship may face relegation today.
As Idman.biz reports, following the relegation of Sabail from the Premier League, Qaradag Lokbatan is also in danger of losing its place in the First Division.
The Baku-based club is on the verge of dropping to the Second Division. With just 22 points, they currently sit in last place (10th) and will visit Karvan today. If the Yevlakh side—already promoted to the Premier League—wins, Qaradag Lokbatan will be officially relegated.
Even a draw might send head coach Farid Mammadov's team down, depending on the result of the Difai vs Jabrayil match. Both of those teams are on 25 points. If they draw, Qaradag Lökbatan will be relegated regardless of the final round (Matchday 27), due to an inferior number of wins in the head-to-head tiebreaker.
Notably, the Baku club is a two-time First Division champion, having topped the league in 2011/12 and 2021/22 but missed out on promotion to the Premier League due to licensing issues.
Both key fixtures—Karvan vs Qaradag Lokbatan and Difai vs Jabrayil—will kick off today at 17:00.
