Soulyman Allouch: "We needed just one win – and couldn't get it"

Dutch midfielder Soulyman Allouch of Sabail gave an interview to Sportal.az following his team’s relegation from the Misli Premier League.

– Sabail lost to Zira in Round 34 and couldn’t avoid relegation. What’s the atmosphere like within the team now?

I honestly don’t know. We’ve continued training and are preparing for the last two matches. We gave it our all in the last game.

– You were close to winning against Zira. Why couldn’t you score the much-needed goal?

We played well, really. We had several shots on target, but unfortunately, none found the net. Then we conceded a goal and lost. It was extremely painful and disappointing.

– Sabail actually performed decently in recent matches but couldn’t convert chances. Was it a matter of quality, pressure, or impatience? What do you think was the main reason for the relegation?

We have a good team. We always tried to show our best. But just like your question, this is also a question I keep asking myself. We played well, but unfortunately, the outcome wasn’t what we wanted.

– Did you believe in a miracle until the end? If you had won, you’d be fighting Sumgayit next instead of Kapaz...

As I’ve said before, we needed just one win. Everyone at the club believed we could stay in the Premier League if we got that victory. We believed until the end, but sadly, it didn’t happen.

– Will it be difficult to stay motivated for the final two games against Neftchi and Sumgayit?

Not at all. We must stay motivated. Our careers don’t end with this season. We’ll do our best to represent Sabail properly in these last matches.

– Sabail is heading to the First Division. Do you believe the team can return? We’ve seen it happen with Gabala...

Absolutely. Everything is possible.

– Do you have offers from other clubs in Azerbaijan?

Honestly, I don’t know anything yet. I’ll return to the Netherlands and talk to my manager. We’ll consider all the offers. Of course, I would like to stay in Azerbaijan, but we’ll see what happens at the end of the season.
