“Mahir Emreli had a solid season with Nürnberg. I believe he has the potential to play for Bundesliga clubs.”
These remarks were made by German football expert Bernhard Lippert in a statement to AZERTAC, Idman.biz reports.
Lippert, who once served as assistant coach to Berti Vogts in the Azerbaijan national team, shared his thoughts on the Azerbaijani striker, who is set to leave 2. Bundesliga side 1. FC Nürnberg at the end of the season.
Lippert stated that the 28-year-old forward made the most of the opportunity given to him by the club:
“His impressive performances have even caught the attention of Bundesliga clubs. I remember that South Korea’s FC Seoul was once interested in signing him. Mahir exceeded expectations in Germany. As for his departure at the end of the season, I can’t say for sure. Maybe the club wants to bring in younger players — there could be many reasons.”
He also emphasized Emreli’s physical strength:
“I’ve known Mahir since his younger days. While he struggled to find his rhythm in his early months at Nürnberg, he managed to bounce back. In my opinion, Mahir is one of the best footballers Azerbaijan has ever produced.”
Mahir Emreli signed a 1+1-year contract with Nürnberg in August 2024. However, on May 6, the club announced that the contract would not be extended.
