Following the termination of Vagif Javadov’s contract, Sumgayit FK is set to appoint Belarusian coach Aleksey Baga as head coach for the new season.
Idman.biz, citing Sportinfo, reports that negotiations between the club and Baga have concluded positively.
Baga is expected to arrive in Azerbaijan soon to watch Sumgayit’s final two matches in the Premier League live.
Notably, this will mark Baga’s second stint with Sumgayit — he was previously appointed in December 2021 but left in September 2022 due to poor results.
Apart from Sumgayit, Baga has coached clubs like Sokol (Russia), Shakhtyor Soligorsk and BATE Borisov (Belarus), Žalgiris (Lithuania), and Aktobe (Kazakhstan), winning league titles with BATE, Shakhtyor, and Žalgiris.
