Former Azerbaijani national team player Rauf Aliyev made these remarks in an interview with AZERTAC while assessing the chances of Qarabag and Sabah, who will face each other in the Azerbaijan Cup final, Idman.biz reports.
Currently the head coach of Qarabag’s U15 team, the 36-year-old specialist said the Aghdam club, where he once played, is the favorite:
“Looking at the squads and recent performances, we can say Qarabag is superior. Since the team has already secured the Premier League title, all their focus is now on the cup match. For Sabah, failing to win the cup could complicate things, as the trophy is their only chance to qualify for European competitions. Since the final is a single match, both teams will approach the game very seriously.”
The Azerbaijan Cup final will take place on May 31 at the Mehdi Huseynzade Stadium in Sumgayit, with kickoff at 19:00.
