Interview of Rauf Aliyev, a former football player of the Azerbaijan national team, to Idman.biz
- Our team played a goalless draw with Estonia within the Nations League. What do you think was not enough to win?
- We had scoring episodes like in the first game. In my opinion, the last point in the team was not enough. If we had entered the penalty area even more, we would have had more chances to score.
- Mahir Emreli did not play in the match due to suspension. How useful could his return be against Sweden?
- There are few chances against Sweden even if Mahir will appear. But if Renat Dadashov fought against Estonians along with him, our national team would be better. I don't believe that anyone in Sweden will do anything.
- How will the fate of the match be affected by the fact that Sweden has already qualified for the B league?
- I don't believe that they will play comfortably. In my opinion, Sweden will approach the match seriously. It will be very difficult for us to collect.
- It is not excluded that we will roll into the D league. How would you rate the current situation?
- If we get relegated, it's a fiasco. Our national team could win points in this group. If we are going to go down to the D league, then we are not selected from the opponents there. We are also weak. If we were good, we wouldn't be like this.
- Fernando Santos, the Portuguese head coach of the national team, says that we are on the right track. How much do you disagree with this idea?
- He says a lot, but we are not on the right path. If it wasn't like that, we wouldn't have got into the D league, we would have won points. We had a chance to win both games against Estonians, we could have done it, it was possible to take points from other opponents. In my opinion, the current one is not the right way.
- What is the right way? Was it necessary to bring Santus to the team?
- I don't say after looking at the results. I have said before that we need modern, young and more local coaches.
- Then the fault lies in the choice of coach?
- Of course, players are also to blame. The first reason for failure is their reluctance. You have to give your life in the national team. The desire of 2-3 players is not enough for the team. Every one of the 22-24 players in camp should be. But it is not possible to see it so much in our matches. The problem originates first from the players and then from the coach.
