Azerbaijan's U19 head coach, Elkhan Abdullayev, provided insights following the 0-2 defeat to Iceland in the opening round of the UEFA European Championship qualifiers in Group 7.
"We faced a well-organized team and made some early mistakes that led to a goal," Abdullayev told AFFA.az, Idman.biz reports.
He noted that the team controlled the second half, creating several scoring opportunities but failing to capitalize on them. "Despite conceding two goals, we could have turned the game around, but we missed crucial chances."
Looking ahead, Abdullayev is optimistic about the upcoming game against Ireland. "Though we lost the first match, we still have our chances. We're determined to fight hard in the next game for three points," he stated.
The U19s will face Ireland on November 16 at 14:00 Baku time at the Zimbru-2 Stadium in Chisinau, Moldova.
