Lionel Messi continues to be the best footballer in the world and will retain this status until the end of his career.
As reported by Idman.Biz, this opinion was expressed by former Barcelona and Spain striker David Villa, who spent several years playing alongside the Argentine at the Catalan club.
According to Villa, age does not prevent Messi from maintaining the highest level. The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner helped Inter Miami win the MLS Cup in 2025, claimed the Golden Boot, and was named the league’s Most Valuable Player, becoming the first footballer to receive that award in back-to-back seasons. Villa noted that such consistency only underlines the uniqueness of the Argentine.
The former Barcelona forward recalled that he had the chance to play with Messi and against him during the team’s peak years at Camp Nou. In an interview with El Chiringuito, Villa said: Without any doubt. Until he retires, Messi will remain the best player in the world. He also stressed that the Argentine is the best footballer he has ever played with or faced.
Villa also supported the opinion of Real Madrid legend Raul, who likewise named Messi the most outstanding player of his generation. Reflecting on his own career, Villa highlighted the 2011 Champions League final, in which Barcelona defeated Manchester United 3:1, calling his goal in that match his favorite, while Andres Iniesta’s dramatic winner for Spain in the 2010 World Cup final was described as the ultimate example of perfect team commitment.
