An Organizing Committee has been established in connection with the hosting of the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup by Azerbaijan together with Uzbekistan.
According to Azertag, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed the relevant decree.
Under the decree, Deputy Prime Minister Samir Sharifov has been appointed Chairman of the Organizing Committee.
The committee also includes the Minister of Youth and Sports, as well as deputy ministers of emergency situations, finance, culture, economy, internal affairs, digital development and transport, science and education, foreign affairs, and health.
In addition, the Organizing Committee will include the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the city of Khankendi and the Aghdara and Khojaly districts, the Head of the Baku City Executive Authority, the Chairman of the State Tourism Agency, the Chairman of the Food Safety Agency, the Chairman of the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of Azerbaijan, the Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Committee, deputy heads of the State Security Service, the State Migration Service and the State Border Service, the Chairman of the Board of the State Agency of Automobile Roads, the President of Azerbaijan Airlines, the Chairman of Azerishig, the President of AzerEnergy, the Executive Director of the Association for the Management of Medical Territorial Units, the Vice President of the National Olympic Committee, the President of the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA), as well as the heads of the executive authorities of Ganja, Gabala and Sumgayit.
Coordination with the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) regarding the World Cup has been entrusted to AFFA.
The Organizing Committee has been tasked with resolving all necessary issues related to hosting the World Cup in Azerbaijan in 2027, while the Cabinet of Ministers is responsible for matters arising from this decree.
It should be recalled that at the FIFA Council meeting held on October 2, 2025, a decision was made to host the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
Hosting such a prestigious sporting event will further strengthen Azerbaijan’s growing reputation as a sporting nation and will have a positive impact on the organization of major international events in the country at a high level.
