“Yesterday’s cup match against Sabah was interesting, intense, and of high quality for both teams. Since no winner emerged in 90 minutes and even after extra time, only a post-match penalty shootout was missing for the cup drama to be complete,” said Andrey Sinenka, the Belarusian goalkeeper of Imishli.
The 28-year-old keeper commented on their 1/8 final defeat to Sabah in the Bizon Azerbaijan Cup.
“It was tough for both sides, and both teams had good chances to score in extra time, but they converted theirs while we did not. Both teams showed character, skill, and determination to win. I congratulate Sabah on their victory. Does the cup defeat affect our league performance? Personally, I don’t see it that way. The cup is not only a title but also the shortest path for the team to qualify for European competitions in the summer. Unfortunately, we lost that opportunity. However, we accept it as it is and will now focus entirely on the league,” he told sport24.az.
Sinenka also shared his expectations for Imishli’s upcoming Matchday XIV clash with Sumgayit in the Misli Premier League:
“Sumgayit has a magnificent stadium and a strong team. Their last home game saw a full stadium, and I hope the atmosphere will be just as vibrant this time, with a high-quality, entertaining match for the fans. We will strive to achieve a positive result.”
The Sumgayit vs. Imishli match will take place on December 9 at 19:30 at the Mehdi Huseynzade Stadium in Sumgayit.
