“Since the 2017 match between ‘Qarabag’ and ‘Chelsea,’ both teams have undergone significant changes in their squads,” former Qarabag player Maksim Medvedev told AZERTAC while commenting on his former team’s UEFA Champions League fourth-round game in Baku against England’s Chelsea.
He noted that chances are evenly balanced: “Honestly, when we played Chelsea in the group stage in 2017, we were given little chance. But now it’s different. ‘Qarabag’ has made a name for itself in Europe and globally. Our team has repeatedly shown it can compete with any opponent. As for the London side, their players are individually strong and skilled, all match-ready. However, Gurban Gurbanov has also analyzed them well. Both teams are in good form, but the home factor could give us a big advantage.”
Medvedev added that Qarabag has the potential to earn more points in the Champions League group stage: “The most important thing is for the players to remain injury-free. If there are no problems in the squad, we can take all three points at home against Germany’s Eintracht. I watched their match against Napoli—they are manageable for us. The same applies to Ajax; we can get points against the Dutch team at home.”
