The “Draw Strength from Your Victory” mini-football tournament, covering Baku’s city districts and organized under the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and founder and head of IDEA Public Union, has successfully concluded.
Idman.Biz reports that the tournament was held with the joint support of the Baku City Executive Power, the Regional Development Public Union, and the Baku City Youth and Sports Department.
The competition, held among teenagers born in 2013-2014 and consisting of two stages, district and city, aimed to strengthen patriotism among young people, promote a healthy lifestyle, and encourage engagement in sports.
The matches were organized in mini-football stadiums within well-developed neighborhoods established under Leyla Aliyeva’s “Our Yard” project in the city’s settlements and residential areas. A total of 1,266 young athletes from 123 teams participated in the tournament, which followed an Olympic system. The first round concluded on October 24 in the city districts, after which the district winners competed in the city stage.
The tournament, overseen by national-level referees, culminated in the final games on October 31. At the opening of the event, popular singers Chinara Malikzade and Ilhama Gasimova performed for the participants. In the final match, Yasamal district’s team faced Sabunchu district’s team. Yasamal emerged victorious with a 7:5 score and was crowned the tournament champion. Winners were awarded Certificates of Honor and valuable prizes. The event concluded with fireworks and a commemorative photo.
