The International Football Association Board (IFAB) has proposed the idea of implementing a countdown timer to prevent players from wasting time during throw-ins and goal kicks.
Idman.Biz reports that the proposal was discussed at the IFAB Football and Technical Advisory Panel meeting.
Key points of the new rule idea include:
A time limit would be set for throw-ins and goal kicks.
The goal is to reduce delays in the game, particularly in the Premier League, where long throw-ins and goal kicks have become increasingly common.
The mechanism would be similar to the 8-second limit recently applied for goalkeepers.
If the goalkeeper fails to release the ball within the time limit, the opposing team would be awarded a corner kick.
