Inter goalkeeper Josep Martinez struck an 81-year-old man in an electric wheelchair with his car.
According to Idman.Biz citing Quicomo.it, the tragedy occurred on the morning of October 28 at approximately 9:40 local time.
The impact was reported to be extremely severe, and despite the immediate efforts of emergency responders, the elderly man could not be saved. His death was confirmed at the scene. The road was temporarily closed to allow emergency services to operate and conduct routine checks.
As a mark of respect, Inter canceled the press conference of head coach Cristian Civu. Martinez himself is reportedly in shock following the incident. The 27-year-old goalkeeper was unharmed but deeply affected by the tragedy.
