After undergoing several surgeries for an injury sustained in 2022, Gerard Deulofeu was unable to return to the pitch due to complications from a cartilage infection. Despite terminating his contract with Udinese, the 30-year-old forward continues to train actively at the club’s training center every day.
According to Idman.Biz, Deulofeu told foreign media that although doctors cannot guarantee a full recovery, he has not lost hope.
“This could be the hardest recovery in history. But if anyone can do it, it will be me,” the Spanish footballer said.
Deulofeu has received support not only from his family but also from his club. Udinese did not immediately terminate his contract, believing in his recovery. However, in January of this year, after approximately 800 days of waiting, the Italian club finally ended the contract. Despite this, Deulofeu has maintained his determination for over a thousand days and continues his training.
For context, Deulofeu was once considered one of Barcelona’s most promising young talents, making 12 appearances for the first team and scoring once.
