“We know the match against France will be difficult. The most important thing is how we defend against such an opponent.”
Former Azerbaijan national team midfielder Jeyhun Sultanov said this in an interview with sport24.az while discussing the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifier between Azerbaijan and France.
“If we defend properly, we won’t suffer a heavy defeat. I don’t believe any coach would prefer to play open football against France. The level gap between the teams is huge. We all know who plays for France. Every player on our side will have to cover the work of two men to avoid a large scoreline. This is our team,” Sultanov stated.
He also wished the national team success: “I believe we’ll see a completely different team this time. Honestly, it’s hard to predict the result, anything can happen. Even with solid defense, France can find space and create chances. What we really want is for our players to perform well.”
The France - Azerbaijan match will take place today at the Parc des Princes Stadium, kicking off at 22:45 Baku time.
