Bahlul Mustafazada praises Qarabag’s Champions League victory

“It was a very intense game. Despite facing a strong opponent, we played smart, maintained our advantage, and scored the second goal. We defended confidently and held out until the end. This victory made me very happy,” said Qarabag player Bahlul Mustafazada in an interview with futbolinfo.az.

The 28-year-old defender reflected on the 2-0 win over Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League group stage: “The opponent mainly tried to create dangerous situations from corners and free kicks. We anticipated this and trained specifically for it. In the second half, we had to drop back a bit because they were really strong. In previous years, we used to concede goals in such situations, but this time it was different. I’m glad we finished the game with a clean sheet.”

Mustafazada also spoke about their consecutive victories: “Winning two games in a row is very encouraging. Now our goal is to continue collecting points. We’ll aim to perform well in every match. Honestly, we didn’t expect this much, but we understand we need to get even better. In future matches, we’ll show a stronger team performance. The upcoming opponents are also quite strong, so we want to maintain this momentum and continue winning.”

He also commented on Elvin Jafarguliyev being named the best player of the match, the first Azerbaijani footballer to achieve this in the Champions League: “We all congratulated him and were happy for his success. We even tried to get him a gift, but his hand was a bit stiff, so it didn’t work out (laughs).”
