The Republican Youth Chess Olympiad was held at the Balakan Olympic Sports Complex, organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Azerbaijan Chess Federation (ACF).
The tournament consisted of 11 rounds, with a total of 250 chess players from 26 cities and districts of Azerbaijan competing in Groups A and B, Idman.biz reports.
In various categories, the winners were: Daniel Konovalov, Malak Asadli (under 8), Farid Sadigzade, Madina Eyvazova (under 10), Yusif Musasoy, Maryam Mammadova (under 12), Huseyn Gurbanov, Dinara Huseynova (under 14), Mahammad Bagirov, and Sara Karimzada (under 16).
The team of the Specialized Olympic Reserve Children and Youth Sports Chess School No. 3 and No. 4 won first place in both Groups A and B. The teams from Ganja and Ujar Children and Youth Chess Schools finished second, while the teams from Beylagan and Shaki Children and Youth Chess Schools came third.
According to the regulations, in Group A, the first-place winners among boys and girls, Mahammad Bagirov and Dinara Huseynova, will be sent to represent Azerbaijan at the European Youth Championship in Montenegro this November.
