India yet to decide on host city for World Chess Cup featuring Azerbaijani grandmasters

The All India Chess Federation has not yet made a final decision on the host location for the World Cup, in which Azerbaijani grandmasters will also participate.

A few days ago the FIDE Council officially confirmed that the World Cup will take place in India, Idman.biz reports.

The tournament is scheduled to be held from October 31 to November 27. However, the specific region where the competition will be organized has not yet been determined.

According to “The Times of India,” Ahmedabad and Goa are currently being considered as the main candidates. A final decision on the location is expected in the coming days.

The World Cup is part of the chess world championship cycle. The top three finishers will qualify for the Candidates Tournament.

Rauf Mammadov, Read Samadov, and Ahmad Ahmadzada will represent Azerbaijan in the tournament, having secured qualification through preliminary competitions. Nijat Abasov is eligible to participate as a semifinalist of the previous World Cup.

The tournament will also feature some of the world’s top-rated chess players. Among them is expected to be Shakhriyar Mamedyarov. Therefore, the exact number of Azerbaijani representatives will be known in the near future.
