The international chess festival Sheki Open officially begins today in the city of Sheki, Azerbaijan.
The tournament will feature 344 players representing 9 different countries.
Of the total participants, 56 will compete in the A Tournament, while the rest will play in the B Tournament.
The top seed in the A group is Azerbaijani grandmaster Eltaj Safarli. Fellow Azerbaijani player Ahmad Ahmadzada is ranked second in the starting list, followed by Ukraine’s Vitaliy Bernadskiy in third.
Sheki Open is part of the Chess Tour Azerbaijan series organized by the Azerbaijan Chess Federation.
The event will be held in 9 rounds under the Swiss system and will conclude on June 25.
